Hi Mavilor,
To set up an automation for emails that haven’t been opened in Brevo, follow these steps:

1. **Create a New Workflow** : Start by going to the ‹&nbsp;Automation&nbsp;› section and creating a new workflow.
2. **Set the Trigger** : Choose the trigger as ‹&nbsp;Email not opened&nbsp;›. You can specify the campaign and set a delay (e.g., wait 3-5 days after sending the original email to check for opens).
3. **Add a Condition** : Set the condition as ‘If email not opened’ after the chosen delay.
4. **Define the Action** : After that, decide what action to take—whether it’s sending a follow-up email or another reminder.
5. **Optimize Your Follow-Up Email** : Keep your follow-up email subject line catchy and try using a different angle to re-engage them. You could offer more value, a different offer, or a personal touch.
6. **Test It Out** : Once set up, make sure to run a test to ensure the workflow works smoothly.

Let me know how it goes! If it’s still not working, I can help walk you through the settings again.

Hi Esther, thank you for your help. I am using the beta workflow editor, did you have that one also in mind when you sent me these instructions ?

Tks

Hi Eric, thanks for reaching out! The steps I provided were based on the regular workflow editor, but the same general process should apply to the beta version too. That said, the beta editor might have some differences in layout or features.

In the beta version, you should still be able to:

1. Select a **trigger** based on unopened emails.
2. Set the delay time.
3. Add conditions and actions in a similar way.

If you find the interface a bit different or run into any specific issues, let me know

Thanks for the information. But I think Brevo does not have any trigger for ‹Email not opened›.not in Classic or New Editor. I tried looking for it, but I did not find any trigger for this. I only see ‹Email opened›. Can you say where I should find this? Or any workaround?

Yes you have one 🙂 see here:

Hello,

I have the same issue (as Tecnomaxx and Mavilor), I cannot find ‹&nbsp;Email not opened&nbsp;› anywhere (in the new or classic editor for automations) I have searched everywhere.

This would be such a useful automation to have (something not happening, such as, a user not clicking or not opening).

Any help is much appreciated!

Hi @eliotwebb , so if I get it well, you don’t have access to the same options as the ones I’ve put in the screenshot, is that correct?

I found the «&nbsp;Add filter&nbsp;» option on this page: [Brevo](https://app.brevo.com/contact/list)

Hey @ahudavert thanks for the message.

So I can see the filter on the contacts page, but not on the [automations](https://app.brevo.com/automation/automations) page.

I think it’s the same for the others that have comments, we are looking to create an automation using ‹&nbsp;Email Not Opened&nbsp;› but the only option is ‹&nbsp;Email Opened&nbsp;›

Ok I get it better, thanks.

Actually, «&nbsp;Email opened&nbsp;» is a trigger, meaning that when an email is opened, we know it, it generates an event, and we are able to start a workflow based on that.

«&nbsp;Email not opened&nbsp;» does not generate an event, because actually… nothing happens 😅 that’s why you can see it in the automation and not as a trigger of the automations. Still, you can do it differently:

- create a segment for people who did not open the email
- and create a «&nbsp;filter&nbsp;» trigger based on this segment. Do you know how to do it? If not, tell me, I can provide more details

Does this reply your question?

</div>

Hi Ahudavert,

Thank you for the clarification regarding the «&nbsp;Email opened&nbsp;» trigger event and why «&nbsp;Email not opened&nbsp;» doesn’t generate an event. I now understand that because «&nbsp;Email opened&nbsp;» creates an event, it allows for automation triggers, whereas «&nbsp;Email not opened&nbsp;» doesn’t create an event and therefore cannot be used in the same way.

However, I’ve encountered a challenge with this approach when trying to set up follow-up workflows:

For example, if I send out 30 emails on **Day 1** and another 30 emails on **Day 2** , and I want to follow up with the people who didn’t open the emails on **Day 1** , the process becomes quite manual. Here’s the issue:

1. I have to **manually create a segment** of Day 1 recipients who did not open the email.
2. Then, I need to **activate a follow-up workflow** for that specific segment.
3. On the next day, I’ll need to **repeat the process** for Day 2 recipients: create a new segment for those who didn’t open the Day 2 emails and activate a separate follow-up workflow for them.

This means that follow-up emails are not fully automated because each batch (Day 1 and Day 2) requires me to create new segments and triggers manually. Additionally, every day, I would have to manage and activate follow-ups for multiple days (e.g., sending the second follow-up for Day 1 and the first follow-up for Day 2 on the same day).

The result is that I can’t set up an ongoing, automated follow-up sequence without manually intervening every time.

Is there a way to streamline this process so that the follow-ups can be fully automated, without needing to create new segments and workflows for each batch of emails? Any suggestions you have on automating this flow would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

</div>

Hi @kartik123 , that’s perfectly clear, thanks for the details.

What about this idea: you create a segment of all contacts who received emails (emails to be configured) in the last 24h but did not open them in the last 24h, would that work?

 ![Capture d’écran 2024-11-22 à 09.48.15](https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/flex013/uploads/brevo/original/1X/8ab81e818e887a1b10b5583d695d3ce110471c78.jpeg)

Then you create an automation that is based on this segment and that send the follow-up email.

In your marketing journey, let’s say:

- you start by creating Email 1: in the email names inside the segment, you will put «&nbsp;Email 1&nbsp;»
- and if you create «&nbsp;Email 2&nbsp;» one day, you’ll add it to the segment, you’ll save it, that will automatically update the workflow.

Could that be a scalable solution?

The automation is really confusing, cannot execute a simple automation. Here’s my flow:
I have 5 lists.

1st: Schedule email to all the list.
2nd: After 7 days, check who just opened, opened and clicked a specific link in the email and unopened.
3rd: To all these segments, send 3 different mails.

From the attached image why the flow is not working?

We want to automate an A/B test campaign and follow up with recipients who don’t open our emails. Our plan is to send the initial A/B test campaign and then, based on the email open rates, trigger a follow-up email with a new subject line to those who haven’t opened the first email.

Hi @Alley7 , this you can do very easily: just create a segment, see here: [Automation for email campaign not opened - #14 par ahudavert](https://community.brevo.com/t/automation-for-email-campaign-not-opened/2301/14), and then send a campaign to the contacts which are part of this segment
